Poverty Simulation

Poverty Simulation
May 26, 2026 secretary

Imagine waking up already behind.
The rent is due. The car needs repairs. There’s not quite enough food in the pantry—and then something unexpected happens.

For many families, this isn’t imagination. It’s everyday life.

Pekin First and Grace UMC invite you into a Poverty Simulation—an experience designed to help us step into that reality, if only for a short time. During this simulation, you’ll make decisions, face obstacles, and feel the pressure that comes with living on the edge of poverty.

It’s not about pretending—it’s about understanding.

Because as followers of Jesus, we are called not only to care for the poor, but to truly see, hear, and walk alongside them. This experience helps us grow in compassion and better understand the lives of those we serve in ministry—and reminds us how close any of us might be to that same reality.

We invite you to take part. Sign up today and come ready to learn, reflect, and be changed.
